If you’re living with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have tried talk therapy, medications, or both without lasting relief, MDMA-assisted psychotherapy may have offered you a new path forward, particularly if you participated in a clinical trial or Expanded Access program.
Our role at the Behavioral Wellness Clinic is integration: a structured therapeutic process that helps you make sense of, contextualize, and apply what surfaced during your MDMA-assisted sessions.
MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) is a synthetic compound that can temporarily reduce fear and defensiveness, enhance emotional insight, and increase trust and openness in the therapeutic relationship during legally sanctioned studies. When followed by dedicated integration therapy, these effects can lead to deep, lasting healing.
This treatment approach remains in advanced clinical trials and is part of an Expanded Access program approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While BWC does not administer MDMA or conduct MDMA-assisted therapy sessions, we do provide expert integration support for individuals who have legally received this treatment elsewhere.
MDMA-assisted psychotherapy is not the same as recreational MDMA or Ecstasy. In clinical settings, MDMA is carefully dosed and administered under medical supervision, with the support of trained therapists before, during, and after the session. The goal is not to escape reality, but to face it with less fear and more clarity.
In earlier Phase 2 trials, 107 people with chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD received a structured course of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. Results showed that:
These findings led the FDA to grant MDMA Breakthrough Therapy status in 2017, accelerating its path to potential approval.
The Behavioral Wellness Clinic participated in these trials at the University of Connecticut Health Center (UCHC), under the leadership of Dr. Monnica Williams and Sara Reed, MS.
Today, while we cannot provide MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, we continue to offer integration services for individuals who received MDMA-assisted therapy through the Expanded Access program in partnership with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS).
Integration supports the healing work that began during your MDMA-assisted psychotherapy session(s). While we do not administer MDMA, our integration process mirrors the same trauma-informed, supportive structure used in clinical follow-up care.
Many individuals who participated in Expanded Access programs have multiple MDMA sessions (typically three, spaced about a month apart) and continue with integration therapy afterward to deepen and solidify therapeutic gains.
You may benefit from integration services if:
Our clinical team will work with you to explore how integration therapy can support your recovery and ensure that it aligns with your therapeutic needs.
If you’re living with PTSD and haven’t found relief through traditional therapies, you may be eligible for this promising treatment. Contact us to learn more about MDMA-assisted psychotherapy and to see if the Expanded Access program may be right for you.
Healing from trauma is possible. We’re here to help you find your way forward.
